Leicester Riders Head Coach Rob Paternostro continued his team building for the new season, with the signing of 25 year old American guard Zaire Taylor.
The 6 foot 4 inch Taylor played at top US basketball University, the Missouri Tigers, then had a season in Holland with Nijmegan in the top flight in Holland, before playing with the Staten Island Vipers in the American Basketball Association (ABA) last season.
Taylor started for the Tigers for 2 seasons, after transferring from the University of Delaware, and in his senior year averaged over 8 points, 3 rebounds, and 3 assists a game, while shooting over 36% from the 3 point line. He was in the Big 12 Conference All Tournament Team in 2009, when Missouri were Big 12 Tournament winners.
In 2011, Taylor was selected to the All Dutch Eredivisie Second Team, and Eredivisie All Defensive Team. In Holland, Taylor averaged 14 points, nearly 4 rebounds and 3 assists a game while shooting 49% from the floor. He was also selected to the ABA All Star game earlier this year.
“He has good size and length for a guard at 6-4 but also possesses speed and athleticism.”
The Jelson Homes DMU backed Rider’s Head Coach Rob Paternostro said, “Zaire is a player that can do many things on the basketball court. He has good size and length for a guard at 6-4 but also possesses speed and athleticism.”
“I have been most impressed by his basketball IQ and his ability to read the game on both ends of the floor. He comes from a big time program at Missouri where his play was very instrumental in a couple of very good seasons for their program.”
“I like his versatility on both ends of the floor and am excited about the many ways we can use him.”
“He had a very good season in Holland, he had some good numbers and played on a team that had success , we hope that experience will be beneficial to what he can bring to the Riders.”
