Rob Paternostro has further strengthened his squad with the capture of 24-year-old James Warwick.
The 6’6” guard-forward from Hertfordshire has spent much of his early career on the continent, having previously played in the EBL for Essex & Herts Leopards.
“James has some good European experience and has performed well in a few different places,” Paternostro said.
“What impressed me about James is how hungry he is to succeed in the BBL.”
Since the 2006/07 season, Warwick has been playing his basketball on mainland Europe with time spent in Austria, Italy and Germany.
With Germany side Hannover Korbjaeger last year he posted 25 points per game earning him a switch to Pro-A league side UBC Hannover Tigers in January.
In 2008/09 he helped Wolfenbuettel Dukes to runners-up spot in the Germany’s Pro-B, averaging over 10 points per game for the side.
“He brings a lot of energy to the game and is the type of player that raises the intensity on the floor whenever he plays. He can play a few positions and brings some more versatility to our basketball team,” Paternostro added.
Riders will be hosting their annual pre-season tournament this weekend, with Derby, Milton Keynes and the USA Select Touring side all taking part at John Sandford Sports Centre.
