Leicester Riders travel to the Glasgow Rocks this weekend to continue BBL Cup North Group action.
Riders looking to bounce back
The Riders made a bright start to the season defeating the Sharks, Phoenix and Giants in their opening 3 games of the BBL Cup however over the past 2 weekends the Riders have struggled falling to the Eagles and Phoenix before losing to Sheffield in the Semi Final of the BBL All-Stars.
The season is still young and there is no doubt that this years new look Riders Squad are still finding their feet and improving their understanding of one another. Despite this you’d expect a reaction from Coach Paternostro’s men this Sunday in Glasgow as they look to re-find their form from the opening weeks of the season.
Namon Wright continues to be consistent
Namon Wright has arguably been the Riders most consistent player so far this season. Namon currently leads the team in scoring averaging 15.4 points per game on an impressive 45% from the floor and 42.3% from the 3 point line.
The most impressive stat from Wright’s first few games as a professional is that he has scored 15 points or more in each of his 5 outings for the Riders including a season high 17 points against Newcastle last weekend. The LA Native is definitely one to watch as the Riders look to get back to winning ways this weekend on the road in Glasgow.
When Opportunity Knocks
With injuries to Josh Ward-Hibbert and Kyron Cartwright last weekend there is no doubt that Head Coach Rob Paternostro will be calling on other members of his roster to step up in their absence. Young Brit Alex Roberts was called upon against Cheshire last weekend and contributed well scoring 4 points in just 6 minutes on court, Alex may well be called upon this weekend to take charge of some of the ball handling duties for the Riders.
Italian American Guard Joe Scott is likely to also see some more court time on Sunday, Scott has struggled to shoot the ball early in his Riders career however he did score 3 straight 3s in the BBL All-Star Championship on Sunday showing he can provide the hot hand when called upon.
Point Guard Rema Lascelles is likely to start for the Riders this weekend providing a much needed calmness when leading the team which could be critical to the Riders success against the Rocks.
