Riders star Drew Sullivan revealed how he is helping to develop young British basketball players through his DS8 camps each summer.

The camp provides expert coaching within position specific clinics, alongside strength and conditioning workouts and the opportunity for the talented young players to compete against each other throughout the week.

“We ran the camps for the emerging elite talent aged 18-25 years old on an invitation only basis.” Explained Drew, this years’ camp was based at Loughborough in the offseason. “Jonny Bunyan is doing really well up at Glasgow Rocks, and Louis Sayers down at Plymouth. Both players were at the DS8 camp, its pleasing to see them progressing.”

“One of things I try to work with players on is their versatility to play in other positions. It gives young players a greater chance to gain court time as they can offer their teams more. It also gives them an appreciation of what other positions need for them to be successful.”

“We start with breakdown drills and taking them out of their comfort zones. They get to see a different side of the game.”

DS8 has a bright future and Drew believes his plans can help the progression of talented players through his experiences in the game, giving some of them greater exposure.

“Hopefully we’re be able to expand our programme to benefit as many talented young basketball players as possible.” Sullivan

“We have developed a great relationship with GB and we are hoping that we will be able to put on an exposure camp for guys over here. As well as the guys already in programmes, its a great opportunity each summer for those looking to play in the BBL or Europe to improve different aspects of their game.”

“We are looking at running Nationwide basketball clinics with players of a National league standard. Our aim is to make a difference at the grass-roots level. Hopefully we’re be able to expand our programme to benefit as many talented young basketball players as possible.”

As well as the on court work-outs, DS8 educates the players on all facets of the professional game, including lectures from world-leading professionals in sports marketing, management and finance.
