Conner Washington returned for his second stint with the Leicester Riders following a year playing in Denmark with Team FOG Naestved.

A graduate of the Loughborough Riders programme Washington picked up valuable experience during his time in Denmark which was clear for all to see as he shone in both the Riders European and BBL campaigns.

It was a career year for Washington who averaged a high in points, assists, rebounds and steals per game on the season. Washington’s impressive season earned him his first GB cap in February as he was selected in their squad to face Austria and Cyprus.

Key performances

October 31st 2018 V Szolnoki Olaj – FIBA Europe Cup

Stat Line: 21 Points (6-9 FG), 2 Rebounds, 4 Assists

The Leicester Riders faced the Hungarian Champions Szolnoki Olaj in their second away trip of the FIBA Europe Cup. British Guard Conner Washington had his best game in the FIBA Europe Cup pouring in 21 points and dishing out 4 assists.

Washington got going early with a strong contested layup inside to open his account before knocking down a catch and shoot 3 midway through the second quarter. Washington knocked down his second 3 of the game midway through the second quarter, this time off the dribble to bring the Riders within 8 of Szolnoki.

Connor his yet another pull up 3 midway through the fourth quarter, this time to kickstart the Riders late comeback. Unfortunately it wasn’t enough, despite the Riders coming back from as many as 16 down on the back of 10 fourth quarter points from Washington Szolnoki had just too much on the night taking the win 80-77.

February 1st 2019 V Sheffield Sharks – BBL Championship

Stat Line: 21 Points (7-7 FG), 5 Rebounds, 4 Assists

The Leicester Riders faced the Sheffield Sharks for the second time in the BBL Championship once again at the EIS Sheffield. It was a near perfect performance from Conner who shot an incredible 100% from the floor.

Connor scored his first bucket of the game from a nice pullup jumper inside they key before tying the game at 13 with a 3 on the next Riders offence. Washington connected on his second triple of the game with 2 minutes left in the half as the Riders pulled ahead by 8, their largest lead of the game.

The Sharks however pulled it back in the second half tying the game momentarily before a late Riders run punctuated by a Conner Washington 3 to give the Riders a 7 point lead heading into the fourth quarter. A long 2 off the dribble from Conner extended the Riders lead to 9 early in the fourth, the Sharks were unable to fight back from there as the Riders took the win 69-77.

February 2nd 2019V Manchester Giants – BBL Championship

Stat Line: 21 Points (7-11 FG), 3 Rebound, 8 Assists

Following a spectacular showing in Sheffield the night before Conner once again shone in an impressive 94-68 win for the Riders. The Giants jumped out to a 10 point lead before the Washington knocked down a trademark 3 to stop the bleeding and as the Riders made a run of their own.

The Riders were much improved in the second quarter pulling the lead right back before another Conner 3 game the Riders their first lead since the early exchanges. Minutes later Conner knocked down his second 3 of the game before a sweet dish to Josh Ward-Hibbert gave the Riders a 5 point lead.

A sweet bounce pass to Tim Williams gave the Riders a 10 point lead, and they never looked back from there. Conner knocked down back to back 3s in the third quarter as the Riders hit a flurry from behind the arc that put the game out of reach for the giants.
