Leicester Riders Head Coach Rob Paternostro believes his team is showing excellent early season form, in spite of being understrength, after a comprehensive 96-57 victory over Manchester Giants.
Riders remain undefeated and top their Group in the BBL Cup after another defensive masterclass.
Josh Ward Hibbert was once again star man, scoring 20 points and pulling down 13 rebounds, but Jamell Anderson top scored with 21 points, including 4 of 8 three pointers. Kyron Cartwright had also had a great game with a double-double of 14 points and 11 assists.
Once again Riders ball movement stood out, with 26 assists recorded to just 12 for Manchester.
“We have found Manchester’s venue a tricky place to play in the past, and we had to overcome that, and I thought the guys did that well.”
“Whether the shots are dropping, you can always play defence and we were exceptional, holding them to just 20 points in the first half.”
“We were down bodies, with our new American not having his visa, Rema Lascelles out with a back spasm, and of course Mo Walker still not available.”
“But the other guys stepped up, and once again Jamell Anderson and Josh Ward-Hibbert were the dynamic duo from both wings. I thought Kyron Cartwright, who was struggling with an ankle injury for over a week, was just sensational – once again controlling the game, dishing out 11 assists and making a big contribution on offence.”
“We are far from the finished article but I like how we are progressing as a team.”
Next up for Riders is another group match in the BBL Cup this Friday night against long-standing rivals Newcastle Eagles (7:30pm) at the Morningside Arena.
