Leicester Riders Head Coach Rob Paternostro was delighted with the form shown by his team, as they hit the heights in a weekend double against Newcastle Eagles and Plymouth Raiders, and moved up to third in the Championship.
Riders managed to pick up their biggest win ever against Newcastle Eagles, 101-63. The Eagles were without their big 7 footer, CJ Gettys, and struggled on offence, as Riders held the Eagles to just 27% shooting.
Namon Wright led the Riders with 29 points, while Josh Ward-Hibbert picked up a double-double of 18 points and 10 rebounds; and Darien Nelson-Henry added 19 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists.
Kyron Cartwright and Jordan Spencer dished out a combined 22 assists.
It was also convincing at the Raiders, as Leicester used a dominant third quarter to put the match beyond the home side’s reach.
Ward-Hibbert was in form again, top scoring with 18 points and adding 7 rebounds, and Cartwright was back to near his best with 11 assists, while Wright and Nelson-Henry had an efficient 16 points apiece.
“It was a tremendous weekend for the team, with two exceptional performances.”
“Newcastle are a very strong side, and always get up for a Riders match, so to dominate as we did was a real statement.”
“And Plymouth was sold out with a huge amount of expectation, with the new ownership and two new signings, and it felt like a playoffs’ atmosphere.”
“Our guys loved it, played very strong defence in the first half, and then turned it on offensively in the third quarter.”
“I thought our conditioning made the difference this weekend, and I am immensely proud of the guys.”
Riders now have a weekend off with the international break. Their next match is against Sheffield Sharks at the Morningside Arena on Saturday 29th February in a 7:30pm Tip. CLICK HERE to purchase your tickets!
