Leicester Riders women scored an impressive 89-64 win in the East Midlands derby, and they handed local rivals Nottingham Wildcats a first loss of the season.

Riders were fuelled by the trio of Kate Oliver, Brea Elmore and Sara Hinriksdottir, who all returned more than 20 points in the contest.

Riders led from start to finish, and were ensured a good start by two early three pointers from Hinriksdottir.

A three pointer by Jen Ashton helped ensure Riders led 24-21 at the end of the first quarter.

Riders got the lead out to nine points midway through the second quarter, but fine work by Nottingham’s Jasmine Joyner closed the deficit to just 38-35 at halftime.

Riders dominated the third quarter, and two three pointers from Elmore pushed Riders lead out to 63-49 with ten minutes left.

Nottingham came back in the final period to close within 7, trailing 69-62, but Riders then stepped up a gear for a convincing win.

Australian Oliver finished with 25 points on 50% shooting and pulled down 10 rebounds.

Elmore contributed 23 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists in an all-action display.

Hinriksdottir’s 22 points included 3 of 5 three pointers.
