This Sunday the Riders Women join the Men’s team in a trip to London as they take on Barking Abbey in a potentially crucial matchup for a top 4 playoff spot.
For Barking the next two weeks are vital playing the two sides directly above them with a trip to Cardiff this Sunday before taking on the 4th placed Riders.
The Charnwood College trio of Rebecca Taylor, Jess Davies and Eleanor Jones will be familiar with two of Barking’s young British standouts in Sadie Russell who was a teammate of theirs at last summer’s European Championships whilst Savannah will make the jump to the Under 18’s having lead the Under 16’s to Division A last summer.
The duo have both impressed this season and have featured in the WBBL team of the week with Sadie averaging just under 18 points per game in her last 3 outings whilst Savannah is one of only two players in double digit scoring for the side and also leads the team in rebounding.
Riders signing Gorica Pejavec will make her debut in the game, hoping to give the Riders a boost in scoring against the London team.
Veteran experience of former WNBA guard Brandy McCain alongside ex Czech Republic, Italian and Bulgaria internationals Tereza Brantlova, Nnena Wabara and Diana Naydenova-Goryanova who currently leads the WBBL with 5 assists a game.
With top scorer Brantlova only scoring 14 points per outing it is Mark Clark sides depth that is a key component to Abbey’s success with 9 players averaging over 5 points a game.
