Leicester Riders women won a thrilling WBBL Trophy semi-final 72-66 at Loughborough University against recent WBBL Cup winners Sevenoaks Suns, as Riders look to defend their title.

Jen Ashton, Brea Elmore, Sara Hinriksdottir and Kate Oliver all returned double-digit scores for Leicester, with Australian Oliver leading the way by netting 17 points.

Sevenoaks went up earlier, edging the first quarter 20-15.

But Riders battled back to trail by just two points at halftime, 40-38.

Riders finally got on top in the third quarter edging it 21-15, to lead 59-55 heading into the final quarter.

Leicester then held their nerve down the stretch to progress to the final.

The BBL Trophy final at the Emirates Arena in Glasgow next month will see a repeat of the 2019 final, after Durham Palatinates joined the holders Riders in the showpiece game.

Durham outlasted Nottingham Wildcats by finding a higher gear during the last period to ease away and complete a 92-82 success.

It was based significantly on a team-high 23 points from former Riders player Dee Hayward.
