2018 WBBL Trophy winners, Leicester Riders will take aim at another positive season by utilising a strong returning core of student-athletes players – headlined by rising Great Britain star Holly Winterburn and GB senior, Mollie Campbell.

Winterburn and Campbell will be joined by Rebecca Navarro, Imogen Cook, Lauren Saa, Claudia Viana and Megan Jones, who all return to the court for Riders as they continue their studies at Loughborough University, Loughborough College and Charnwood College in 2018-19.

“I think we managed to keep a good, interesting core to build around from last season’s roster,” commented the recently appointed Head Coach, Jesper Sundberg.

“It’s important that they keep improving and together with the new recruits, they form a strong and competitive team that can build on last year’s success under Coach [Krumesh] Patel.”

Despite being one of the youngest players on the roster, Winterburn will be expected to continue her growth following a strong season in the WBBL and a positive time with Great Britain during the summer. She also took MVP honours at the ISF World 3×3 Championships in which she helped Charnwood College Riders to the Gold medal in Serbia.

“Holly is coming from a strong second half of last year’s season,” said Coach Sundberg.

“We knows that she has a lot of room for improvements, in order to add to an already good set of skills, which she has showcased in the WBBL before.”

Mollie Campbell will enter the campaign following her best international season, yet including helping the England team to a Silver Medal at the 2018 Commonwealth Games in Australia.

“Mollie is the player who has represented the club the longest period and is a key person in the puzzle,” added Sundberg.

“She will have an important role passing on the experience and attitude that’s needed to become a winner.”

Further roster announcements will be made during coming days.
