Leicester Riders took victory over the Barking Abbey Crusaders to progress to the WBBL Playoffs Semi-Final at home on Sunday 7th May at 12.45.

Leicester Riders booked their spot in the WBBL Play-Offs Semi-Finals with a 70-64 victory against Barking Abbey Crusaders.

Deanne Hayward netted a game-high 25 points to lead the Riders to victory with Erika Livermore adding 21 points and 13 rebounds.

After an even first period, Leicester began to pull away in the second as they established a nine-point advantage heading into half-time.

The Crusaders held the home side to just three points in the opening seven minutes of the third as they closed to within a point, before 6-0 Riders close.

A 9-0 run put BA 43-45 ahead only for the Riders to respond to lead 60-52 with four minutes left and were able to hold on for the victory.

Head Coach Matthew Harber checked in following the game to share his thoughts on the victory.

“Credit to Coach Clark and Barking Abbey as they really created a physical game and kept right with us all the way through the game.

It felt like whichever team controlled the boards was in control and that was a clash between two of the best rebounding teams in the league.

I’m disappointed with the possession battle because the number of offensive boards and turnovers we made a really unacceptable, but we still managed to find a way to come good.

I thought Erika was terrific in the first half and Dee showed her quality in the second half. Our team always keeps you honest.. you can never be quite sure who is going to score when and that will continue to be our strength during the Play-Offs.”
