Leicester Riders overcame the London Royals in British Basketball League Championship play to start 1-0 in the competition.
It took Riders overtime to take the win against BBL new comers the London City Royals.
A quick start saw the Riders explode to a double digit lead midway through the first quarter but the Royals were able to work their way back in the game due to the poor shooting of the home side.
Royals were able to maintain a league due to big shots and inside play but the Riders defence limited the team from getting going. Big scoring plays from Andy Thomson and Deandre Burnett helped Riders close the gap before Thomson tied the game at the free throw line to take it into overtime.
Burnett continued his aggressive play whilst Wright produced on the defence end and Thomson knocked down a number of clutch shots to help the Riders to victory.
Hear from Head Coach Rob Paternostro after today’s victory against the Royals.
