League-leading Leicester Riders bounced back from a first defeat in 13 games with a comprehensive 86-57 defeat of Bristol Flyers at Leicester Arena.
Bristol have never beaten Leicester in BBL competition, with Riders making it 12 straight wins against this opposition.
Leading scorers – Holder 18, Walker 16, Wright 12 (Riders); Goodwin 15, Boggs 12, Edozie 8 (Flyers)
Turning point – Riders set the tone defensively from the outset, holding Bristol to just 13 first quarter points as Shane Walker’s three-pointer broke an early tie and sparked a run of nine straight points that made the score 16-7. The lead was into double-digits when Eric Robertson hit a three-pointer to open the second stanza, and Leicester’s defence never allowed Bristol a way back into the game.
Key stat – It is the second time this season that Riders have held Bristol under 60 points, and defence was certainly the foundation for this win. They restricted their visitors to just 31% from the field and, tough on the interior, just 10 second-chance points despite a massive 23 offensive rebounds for Bristol.
Game hero – Shane Walker put the Riders in front for good, and he posted a big double-double of 16 points, on 66% shooting, and 11 rebounds.
