Leicester Riders fans enjoyed another thriller of a game as their team produced an awesome comeback to force overtime and take a 99-89 home victory against the London Lions.
Just days after a successful rescue on the road at Raiders, Rob Paternostro and his side showed tremendous mental fortitude and desire yet again as they overturned a seven point deficit in regulation with just over sixty seconds left on the clock.
After a tight affair throughout, it had looked like Lions were going to take a big win back to the capital and not least when Alex Owumi converted what seemed to be a huge go-ahead triple to make it 81-74.
But Riders finished with an 8-1 run to force the extra period – even if they did have to hold their breath as former favourite Zaire Taylor missed a lay-up with two seconds remaining which surely would have given London victory.
With the bonus of Lions’ guard Andre Lockhart and another ex-Riders employee Rashad Hassan having both fouled out, the momentum was with the home side. And, helped by some great play from British forward Andy Thomson who corralled 15 points and 11 rebounds, they finished the job.
Tyler Bernardini poured in 23 points in a captain’s performance, while Brandon Clark racked up a super double-double of 16 points and 12 assists.
