Leicester Riders 78 (18,44,66) (Sullivan 19, Downing 13, Couisnard 11)
As the first quarter was winding to a close, the teams were in a deadlock at 13-13, but Riders finished the period on a strong note, scoring the last five points for an 18-13 lead.
Leicester carried over the momentum to the second quarter, scoring eight more unanswered points to establish a comfortable 13-point lead at 26-13.
Trailing by 18 points at the half, Phoenix soon found themselves in an even more difficult situation after Riders went on a 17-0 run in the third period to increase the gap to 61-28 and decide the outcome of the game.
Andrew Sullivan had a game-high 19 points and nine rebounds for the visitors, Anthony Downing scored 13, while Jay Cousinard added 11 points.
“I felt like the weeks practice leading up to the game really helped us out,” said Downing in reaction to the 78-43 win.
“We had a real good week with defence and offence. We are starting to learn how to play together as a unit.”
The only Phoenix player in double digits was Reggie Middleton with 15 points, as Yannick Crowder chipped in with nine rebounds and seven rebounds.
