Leicester Riders have launched a new initiative to engage with local schools with the aim to inspire the next generation of players to get into basketball.
The Riders will be taking practice on the road for the first half of the season, venturing out around the city and Leicestershire to allow students to see what happens at a professional sports practice.
The tour started this week at Judgemeadow Community College with hundreds of students watching the Riders prepare for action in Manchester this weekend.
Leicester Riders Managing Director, Russell Levenston, is pleased to the initiate building on the great work of the Riders Foundation.
“It is great for the team to get out into the community as a collective,” commented Levenston. “We are proud of the extensive work the Foundation deliver alongside the players but to be able to take the whole team into a school and allow the students to see what happens at a practice is something pretty special.
“We look forward to the remainder of the tour and future initiatives the Foundation will be delivering.”
The tour continues weekly throughout October and November with 8 additional schools lined up for the Riders team to test the facilities and meet hundreds of students.
