Leicester Riders are set for a repeat of last year’s final, as they take on the Sevenoaks Suns in the Betty Codona Trophy Final.
This comes after the Riders booked their spot in the final, after defeating the Westfield Health Sheffield Hatters in a hard-fought 81-76 victory on Saturday.
The Riders overcame a nine-point lead, as they went on to score 30 points in the third quarter and set up a finals rematch from the year before.
They did this thanks to no small part of the scoring combination of Dee Hayward and Kate Oliver. Hayward had this to say on how last years final fueled their motivation to get back here:
“After Learning from the experience of missing out last year in the Trophy Final, we are certainly ready for this challenge. We’ve been playing good basketball and I have every confidence in each of us that we will come together and get it done.”
The Defending champions, however, come into the game off the back of a 77-41 cruising victory over the WBBL cup Finalists Caledonia Pride.
Riders coach Krumesh Patel believes his side are making positives strides in the right direction, ahead of the final:
“What a trophy run, really proud of the team. We’ve hit some adversity but battled really well. We’ve improved each game and the girls deserve all the credit for getting us to the final. We still got strides to take but are heading in a good direction.”
The final itself will take place this upcoming Saturday, at the Cheshire Oaks Arena in a 4 pm tip-off.
