Leicester Riders coach Rob Paternostro is hoping his side can produce the intelligence to match their intensity when they travel to Northgate Arena to face Cheshire Phoenix on Sunday.

Reigning champions Riders split their games against Worcester Wolves and One Health Sharks Sheffield last weekend while Phoenix recorded their first win, over Manchester Giants.

Paternostro was pleased with the way his team bounced back from defeat to Worcester and limited the Sheffield offence. Now Coach Paternostro wants to see those high levels of performances replicated when attacking the opposition basket.

“I was proud of our defensive effort,” he said.

“To hold a team like the Sharks to 40 points was a testament to how hard we played, it was impressive that in a back-to-back game we were able to give that type of effort on the defensive end for the full 40 minutes.

“At this point our defence is ahead of our offence but we will continue to work hard and try to get more comfortable with our offensive execution.

“Cheshire is very talented, they have a lot of weapons and it will be important that we not only give out the effort on the defensive end, but also play an intelligent game as well.”

One man Leicester will have to be wary of is forward Yannick Crowder, who is coming off a huge 15-point and 15-board performance while his team-mate Shawn Myers can reach 3,000 career rebounds if he comes within one of that total.

The Riders look to continue the good rhythm they finished last weekend’s game against Sheffield as the squad continues to find it’s feet this season.
