Leicester Riders survived on the road as they managed to pull out an 82-85 victory at the death away at Surrey Scorchers.

Tayo Ogedengbe’s 3-pointer made it 82-78 to the home side with 25 seconds remaining, but the Riders responded with the final seven points to snatch the win.

Drew Sullivan and Tyler Bernardini top scored for Leicester with 18 points apiece to help their side improve to 22-2 in the BBL Championship.

The Scorchers had made a blistering start with an 11-0 opening, before the Riders began to settle in the contest. They took their first lead early in the second, but Ogedengbe helped Surrey into a 43-39 advantage at half-time whilst moving past 1,000 BBL Championship rebounds in the process.

A 9-0 run put the visitors in control when play resumed for the second half, but the Scorchers continued their refusal to give in to the pressure and managed to stay within two points ahead of the final quarter.

Leicester proceeded to open up a seven-point cushion with three minutes to go, although there would be yet more twists in the contest as Surrey put together a 13-2 burst to lead by four in the final minute.

The final twist proved to be decisive as the Riders scored seven unanswered points to earn another victory on the road to maintain their impressive away run.
