Cheshire Phoenix will pose a different challenge to the one faced in September; that’s the view of Leicester Riders head coach Rob Paternostro and shooting guard Tyler Bernardini.
Phoenix travel to Loughborough University on Saturday evening (18th October, 7:30pm) to take on the BBL Championship leaders, before Paternostro’s side travel north to take on Glasgow Rocks on Sunday.
“Cheshire will definitely be different,” said Paternostro ahead of Saturday night’s match-up.
“They have different personnel; a new player has arrived, so that will be different for them with Taylor King, but they have been practicing for the past few weeks, just like us. We will be different too.
“We know what we do well and that’s what we’re going to focus on at our end.” – Tyler Bernardini
“If you look back at that game we played against them, we will be in better condition, we will hopefully be better on offense and defence – but so will they. That’s what you’ll be finding as the season progresses; teams will definitely be improving and teams will have different looks.”
Guard Bernardini, who was named in the BBL Team of the Week for the first time this season, following his performances against Surrey and Plymouth last weekend, also acknowledges the changes in personnel in Cheshire’s ranks – but believes the main focus from the Riders players’ perspective is what Riders do on the floor.
“They’ve (Cheshire) added some pieces,” he said.
“However, we’re going to be ready to go. I think they will be different to before, as they’ve added a couple of dynamic pieces, but we’re going to be ready for that and try to anticipate the way that they’re going to play.
“At the same time, we know what we do well and that’s what we’re going to focus on at our end.”
