The Leicester Riders Foundation and LCFC Community Trust have formed an exciting new education partnership, which will offer BTEC Sports courses to 16-18-year olds.

From September 2019, the Riders and LCFC Community Education Academy will offer a two-year, full time BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma in Sport, which is the equivalent of 3 A-Levels.

The programme will combine classroom-based education, alongside daily Futsal and Basketball training, as well as a tailor-made employability programme.

As part of our employability programme, students who enrol onto this course will be put through national governing body coaching qualifications; safeguarding training, first aid and other qualifications/training which will enable them to become more employable up on graduation of the BTEC course.

In addition, students will also benefit from incentives to receive free driving lessons, as well as a free training kit.

Our students will work alongside professional basketball players and LCFC Futsal coaches on a daily basis and gain an insight into playing, coaching and officiating both sports.

There is the possibility to play competitively in college leagues for each respective sport.

Our aim is to create long term education/employment pathways for all students from the age of 16 right up into adulthood.

There will be opportunities available for students on completion of their BTEC course to undertake a sports coaching apprenticeship within the academy, where they will obtain an NVQ Level 3 in Supporting the Delivery of PE and School Sport.

This could lead to employment opportunities within both The Leicester Riders Foundation and LCFC Community Trust.

There will also be opportunities to continue in education with the Riders and LCFC Community Academy and complete a BSc Degree in Sport Development and Coaching.

As well as the above, students can also gain enough UCAS points to go to University to study a sport related degree, go into general employment/apprenticeship or the Armed Forces.

Students would be involved in excursions and end of term trips/awards as well as experience an annual residential.
