Leicester Riders have added Jordan Spencer and Corey Johnson to the BBL roster for the remainder of the season this week.
Riders have strengthened their depth in the backcourt with British guard Jordan Spencer and British-Canadian guard Corey Johnson, expanding the roster ahead of this weekend’s game.
Jordan Spencer joins from FC Schalke in Germany’s Pro A following time at the Lions (averaging 12 points and 6 assists per game) after graduating from Augustana College where as a Senior Spencer averaged 15.5 points per game
Spencer competed against the Riders last season with the Lions but opted to open this season in Germany.
“I’m really excited to be joining the Riders having known the organization a long time,” commented Spencer. “It’ll be a great environment to be in to grow as a player, along with the team having a championship mentality.”
Coach Paternostro was pleased to add the familiar face to the roster.
“Jordan is a guy we have known for years, having played in the BBL we followed his time in college closely and talked him in past summer and when we knew he was available we jumped at the chance to have him. He is a competitive player that can play both guard positions and shown he can be a winner in this league.”
Harvard graduate Corey Johnson joins from Spanish side Zornotza Saskibaloi Taldea in LEB Silver where he was averaging 10.6 points and 3.5 rebounds per game in 27 minutes of play.
Johnson comes from a winning background at Harvard, where as a Senior the team topped the Ivy League with a 19-12 record averaging 7.2 points per game in college alongside 2.4 rebounds a game.
“I’m extremely excited to be a part of the Leicester Riders organisation and want to do contribute to the winning culture of this team. Thank you to my coaches, teammates, and everyone else involved for welcoming me to the Riders family with open arms! Now let’s get to work!”
Coach Paternostro is looking forward to seeing Johnson in action after following his time at Harvard.
“Corey is a guy we looked at all summer, and followed his Harvard career closely. He is a British guy that could be a real asset to our team with the ability to stretch the floor and has played in a winning programme. His sized wll add another dimension to our team and are happy to have him on board.”
Both Spencer and Johnson joined the team late this week and will be available to play tonight against the Bristol Flyers in the BBL Trophy.
Wing Jonas Dieterich re-joins Loughborough Riders following positive contributions to the BBL side in the early parts of the season.
