Leicester Riders claimed a 29th consecutive victory over the Plymouth Raiders, a powerful third quarter sending them to a 90-74 success.

The run is now tied for second the longest ever win streak by one team against another in BBL history, just one short of the all-time record set by Thames Valley in the 1990s.

Five early points for new signing Matt Scott had the home side ahead, but Corey Johnson edged Leicester into a 14-12 lead with back-to-back scores. Josh Ward-Hibbert continued his impressive form with five points in a row, but neither side could really get on top.

Six points without reply had Riders into a 30-22 advantage, but Plymouth netted the last five points of the first half to ensure the gap was only 37-34 at half-time.

Namon Wright helped Leicester to six unanswered points and an 11-point lead early in the third quarter and as they turned up the defensive intensity, Plymouth were starting to feel the heat. Leicester kept them scoreless for three minutes, whilst three-pointers from Jesse Chuku and Wright topped and tailed a 15-0 burst which had Riders 66-42 in front.

The sell-out crowd had come to celebrate a new ownership deal which had allow them to make two marquee signings last week, but the outcome on the floor was all too familiar as Riders posted 36 points in the third quarter – their most in a period since April 2018 when they scored 39 points also in a third quarter at Plymouth Pavilions.

When the Raiders bagged eight quick points to cut the Riders lead to 15 points in the fourth quarter, there was a flicker of hope, but it was quickly extinguished by consecutive threes from Ward-Hibbert, Wright and Jamell Anderson.

Riders had five players in double figures led by Ward-Hibbert’s 18, whilst Cartwright was again sensational at finding his team-mates in the right spots to post 11 assists, as many as the entire Plymouth team combined.

Raiders: Scott 26, Hassan 21, Wilcher 8, Brandon 6, Smith 4, Mvouika 4, Jonuska 3, Richards 2, Okiki, Walker, Ubiaro.

Riders: Ward-Hibbert 18, Wright 16, Nelson-Henry 16, Chuku 11, Cartwright 10, Anderson 9, Spencer 5, Johnson 4, Thomson 1, Scott.
