Leicester Riders have continued their team building for the new season with the re-signing of point guard Rema Lascelles.
Lascelles joined Riders late in pre-season last autumn, and gradually worked his way into the line-up helping the team to three pieces of silverware in the 2017/18 season!
He averaged over 16 minutes a game as back-up point guard, and was often playing in the crucial last few minutes of games, as Riders completed a treble of trophies.
While averaging 3 points and 3 rebounds a game, Lascelles shot a solid 54% from the floor, and over 33% from the three point line. But it was his defence and distribution that were key, and he averaged over 4 assists a game, including a game high 12.
Lascelles earned a basketball scholarship over 4 years at the University of Hawaii, where he averaged 4 points, 3 rebounds and over 2 assists a game in his senior year.
He spent his first season as a pro in the lower leagues in Germany, before joining Riders.
Head Coach Rob Paternostro believes Lascelles is capable of giving more to the Riders,
“We really liked the way Rema contributed to our team last season. It was his first season in the BBL and he took his opportunity and ran with it.”
“Rema is a guy who you can’t just measure by stats. At 6 ft 6 inches he is a point guard with great size and an excellent feel for the game.”
“Offensively his passing and game management were excellent last season. He can really put players in great position to score a skill that you don’t see too much of anymore.”
“A lot of times when looking at the stat sheet his plus-minus numbers were really impressive.”
“Defensively his size and rebounding ability from the guard position allowed us to do many different things. Like a lot of our players he uses his size length and versatility to his advantage.”
“Rema has put a lot of work in this summer, we feel like he is a player that is developing every day and will continue to improve.”
