Leicester Riders and RAF have agreed a extend their partnership for the RAF to sponsor Leicester Riders women, the reigning WBBL Trophy winners for the 2019/20 season.
The Riders women have become a dominant team in the WBBL finishing second in the WBBL Championship for the last two seasons, and were beaten finalists in the WBBL Playoff Final at The O2 Arena in May.
The team have got off to an excellent start to the new season going undefeated at the opening weekend at the University of Essex.
Sergeant James Shaw from RAF Outreach is delighted to extend RAF support to the Riders:
“Riders are a community based club with a commitment to giving the very best career opportunities to young boys and girls, and that very much aligns with our own approach to young people. We believe working with the Riders will help young people better understand the opportunities there are for them in the RAF, and working specifically with the women’s team is a great vehicle for our partnership.”
Riders Chairman Kevin Routledge was looking forward to extending the Club’s relationship with the RAF:
“The RAF have been an excellent partner to the club and their support to the women’s team will greatly help the women’s basketball programme to go from strength to strength. We are finding ever increasing numbers of young girls showing interest in our community basketball programmes run through the Leicester Riders Foundation and the RAF support will help extend the scope of those initiatives.”
