The Leicester Riders are set for another crazy weekend, that sees them play twice in a space of a couple of days once again. They first travel to Sheffield to play the sharks, before moving on to play the Cheshire Phoenix.
After coming out of last weekend with two wins in two, the Riders will be looking to do the same again this weekend. However, after a closely thought game earlier on in the season between themselves and the Sharks, they will have to be at their best to keep their winning streak intact.
Coach Rob Paternostro acknowledges the playing games so close together can have on his team: “Two road games this weekend, starting Sheffield this Friday and they are a tough team and an even tougher place to play.
“We played them once already this season and we know the dangers that they can bring, as their backcourt is explosive at times and the frontcourt is pretty strong. So we are going to need a complete effort to get the job done if we are going to walk away with the win.”
It’s taken nearly five months for the Riders and Cheshire Phoenix to play this season. With that in mind, it will be the first opportunity for the pair to see eye to eye, with a potential playoff matchup later on in season on the cards.
Coach Paternostro believes the Phoenix is a team that nobody in the league should take lightly: “We haven’t played them yet, but we do have them three times in the remaining parts of the season. Everyone around the league knows after they won that cup game, that they can play well in any environment.”
“It will be a challenge to go to their place and play them, as they got some good veteran players along with some nice mixture of youth and done a great job this year.”
The Riders will take on the London Lions next week in the BBL Trophy Semi-Final!
