Rob Paternostro has been handed the Molten BBL Coach of the Month accolade for February after guiding Leicester Riders to the 2017 BBL Trophy Final and taking them through the period unbeaten.
The play-caller posted a perfect seven wins from seven games to maintain Riders’ position at the top of the BBL Championship and put them within 40 minutes of defending the BBL Trophy silverware they won last year.
Riders opened February at the Emirates Arena with a superb 94-74 triumph on BBC Sport against fellow title rivals Glasgow Rocks. Then, perhaps even more impressively, they blasted away another close rival Esh Group Eagles Newcastle with a record-breaking 104-69 win in the BBL Trophy Quarter-Finals.
Looking like they might lose for the first time in the month, they were in a hole at the Copper Box against London Lions, but Paternostro masterminded a thrilling 84-80 success.
A pair of BBL Championship wins against Manchester Giants, prior to Riders and their head coach wrapping up a flawless February with two triumphs in their BBL Trophy Semi-Final double-header against Cheshire Phoenix.
It’s the second monthly award of the 2016-17 season for Paternostro and he takes his team to the Emirates Arena on Sunday 19 March for the BBL Trophy Final.
Riders will match-up against Plymouth Raiders in a game that will be broadcast live on BBC Sport via the red button, BBC Sport website, BBC Sport app and on Connected TV.
