Leicester Riders are set to play the Westfield Health Sheffield Hatters in the semi-finals again, only this time in the WBBL Playoffs. This comes after the teams met at the same stage of the Betty Codona Trophy earlier in the season.
That comes after the Riders booked their spot in the final four, by defeating Caledonia Pride 71 to 61 at the Morning Side Arena.
They did thanks to no small part of Deanne Hayward, lighting up the opposition and shooting close to 70% from the field. She added 17 points in the process of the Riders advancing to the latter stages of the competition.
The added overall game of Jamila Thomson allowed the Riders to see the game out in relatively comfortable fashion. Thanks to her three steal and two blocks, along with leading the team in rebounding with 12.
Jamila Thomson believes that their season is just getting started: “I’m so proud of how the team have performed since our slight set back going into the trophy, but we’ve stepped up to fill and help in our winning chances.”
“We’ve fought for our semis position, and it’s not over yet.”
Having grown up in London, Thomson has added motivation to cap off the teams season in scintillating fashion. That is because the final will be played at the O2 and with added expectations, comes added pressure:
“Being a London girl and always hearing about the O2 finals has been an experience I’ve wanted to have, we missed it last year, but we have a fighting chance to make a dream a reality for all of us.”
Doors open at 1.00pm for Sunday’s Semi-Final action at 2pm and tickets will be available on the door as well as online by CLICKING HERE.
