Coach Paternostro checked in ahead of Friday’s action against the London Lions. Check out what he had to say!

“We are just about back in business after a long three week break, and everyone is excited to be back in action. We now know London Lions are our opponents, and they will pose a huge challenge.

” They have the reigning league MVP, Justin Robinson, who has won the honour two years in a row, evidence of his great ability to control the Lions offence. He is also a deadly three point shooter so we know it is vital we contain him.

“But American forward Brandon Peel is also having a career year, the leading scorer in the BBL this season, and the guy taking and making all the big shots.

“Their slow start to the season was never going to last and it is noteworthy how they handled Bristol Flyers easily last time out, and inflicted the first defeat on cross town rivals London City Royals.

“They are pretty stacked at the guard position and like to play an up-tempo game, and having come to Leicester and won in similar circumstances in previous years, the visit won’t hold any fears for them. The Lions have added extra size in to their front court in recent weeks with the signing of 6 foot 10 inch Alioune Tew, a very athletic forward/ centre, who gives Peel more freedom to play a mid-range game.

“Add to the fact London has had a huge boost by signing the one of the best British players currently in the game, Ovie Soko, and they can be expected to be challenging for honours again this season.

“Soko is a GB international and has played in the top league in the world outside the NBA, the ACB in Spain, in recent years, and would be back there again this season, bar the little matter of his television stint on Love Island.

“We have been told by the Lions he is not making his BBL debut until December, but we will prepare for any team the Lions send. It would not be the first time a BBL team sought to keep quiet about a new signing and particularly with so much hanging on the result of the game.”
