Loughborough Student Riders will open preseason this week in preparation for the 2015-16 season.
The Loughborough players will come together for the first time on Monday ahead of their opening week of practice. With a good mix of returning players and new faces coming in, Head Coach, Mark Jarram, is keen to get started and is looking forward to working with this years team:
“I’m excited. I think we all are. I know the returners are anxious to get back and into a full season schedule. I will be telling these guys, we don’t want the same player or person as last year, we need you to be better!! We need them to come in focused on improving and growing and being better than they were last year.
As with all freshman, they will take time to adjust to a new program, new coach, new teammates and an upgrade in their schedule and workload. We are confident the returners will support the new faces in order to bring them up to speed as quickly as possible. We are all just excited and ready to get the season going!”
Loughborough Students will take on the Leicester Riders in their opening pre-season match up. The game will be the first opportunity for both teams to step on court as a complete squad and will provide both sides a chance to prepare for the upcoming season. Jarram believes the game will give him an indication of where his team is currently, and will help them build for the season ahead.
“With this game being so early into the preseason, we will be less focused on the opponent and more focused on ourselves. We will be taking this game as an opportunity to see exactly where we are at, to try different combinations of players and begin building our foundations for the season.
We know the Riders roster will be talented and a tough matchup, but it is a great opportunity for our younger players to face off against such talented players and we hope that they learn from this game and it helps kick start our preseason in a very positive way. We are all looking forward to getting together as a group and preparing for the season.”
In regards to his expectations for this year, Jarram states,
“Our expectations are high. This year we are not going to talk about placings or championships or anything along those lines. This season our preparation will come in focusing on the present. Ensuring that players and staff all understand the importance of the current moment. We want to do a better job living in the moment and taking each practice and each game one at a time. We do not want to get carried away with anything more than being at our best and growing and improving every day. We have a full training schedule and an environment to help support that, we now have to execute that type of mindset.”
