The WEABL defensive player of the year from last season reflects positively on Charnwood College Riders start to their first season in Division One and the opportunity to play for Leicester Riders. Jess aims to continue playing basketball and her education in America next year.

How has your time at Charnwood been so far?

My time at Charnwood has been a great experience and I have grown as a basketball player and as a person.

How is the season going so far this year?

Our season has started very strong as we are still unbeaten in Division One. We are still finding ourselves as a team and individuals but we have had a strong start to the season and are focused on what we want.

How does this season and being in Division One differ to last year?

I feel like we are a year older as a team, we know what each player brings to the game. Knowing this I feel like we are stronger this year and know how to work together. Also we know the level it takes to do well in this league so there is no easy games every game is a hard game and we need to perform week in week out to do well.

How is it stepping up and playing for WBBL team?

Stepping up for the WBBL is an amazing experience and I have learnt so much. It pushes me to be better, play at a higher speed, become stronger and make quicker decisions. I feel like I have really benefitted from being apart of the WBBL this season. I have learnt a lot from the women within training from their experience and also playing against the best players in the league.

What are you goals for this season?

My goals for this season would be to win Division One and WEABL and become a better all round player by the end of this year.

What are you aspirations for next year?

My aspirations for next year would be to attend university in America, where I could carry on playing basketball and improving my game and gain a good education at the same time.
