Another home win for Charnwood Riders, as they rally up in the second half to overcome the Newcastle Eagles with 101-60 victory.
The Charnwood riders took and early lead but the Eagles energy kept them within fighting distance with the riders taking a narrow lead going into the break. The third quarter showed a great defensive display from the riders only allowing the visitors to score 8 points in the 10 minute period. After dominant quarter riders maintained control of the game and finished out with a comfortable 41 point win.
Coach Will Maynard was impressed with the performance, “give credit to the Eagles, they made it a real contest in the first half, which took our boys a few minutes to get used to.
However we did a good job to match their energy. I was really impressed with how we responded after the half time talk, and we started the third quarter amazingly going on an early run which opened the game up for us. It was our continuous defensive stops that won the game for us in the third quarter. Only allowing them to score 8 points in that third period showed focus on the defensive end.”
The riders had 12 players suit up which saw all 12 players contributing and seeing the floor. A great rebounding display from senior Marcus Quirk helped the Charnwood Riders to victory alongside other strong offensive performances from Greg Durand and Jack Osmand.
The Charnwood Riders are back in business against a undefeated Team Birmingham Elite on the 11th November at Charnwood College with a 3.30 tip.
