The Charnwood College Riders continue a positive start to the season with a victory over the Sheffield, out scoring the new team to the EABL, 109 to 56.
The opening quarter was a well fought battle, Charnwood College tried to pull away with some nice plays from Niall Harris and Hosana Kitenge. However, Bell kept Sheffield within touching distance after making tough shot after tough shot.
The Riders took a small lead at the end of the 1st, 28-20. The second quarter saw some solid defence from the Riders which led to some easy points on the break, which saw Riders go in to half time with a 23 point advantage, 57 – 34.
The half time team talk urged the riders to keep on applying pressure through defence, which saw an outstand third quarter, only allowing the opposition to net 3 points in the 10 minute period.
Head coach Will Maynard, was pleased with the teams effort, “Our standards have been set now, all the boys did great holding a team to 3 points in a quarter. We were locked in and focused throughout the whole period.
“I though Blaize (Sagna) and Leon (Neziri) really lead us with the energy on the defensive end tonight, allowing us to get out in transition.
“Credit to Sheffiled, as a new team in the league they played some really positive basketball, and forced us to play all the way through to the buzzer!”
The Leicester Riders continued to pull away in the fourth, with some key standout performances. Niall Harris led the way with 20 points, and Hosana Kitenge was close behind with 17 of his own.
The next game for the Riders Academy see’s another new team in the League, Newcastle Eagles, which will take place at Charnwood College next Wednesday with a 5.15 tip off.
