Charnwood College Girls U19 team progress to the National School final with a 68-67 victory over Greig City in the Semi-Final of the competition.
The Charnwood team opened a lead in the second quarter however Greig City responded well to reclaim the lead in the third quarter and as the game entered the final stages Charnwood gave a up a easy two to trail by a single point.
A nice pass from point guard Heidi Tranter found Eleanor Jones for the though layup to tie the game before a defensive stop sealed the victory and a spot in the National Final for Charnwood.
Georgia Elliott-King led the scoring for Charnwood with 24 points whilst Eleanor Jones added 17.
Head Coach Krumesh Patel commented after the game.
“Today was definitely the toughest game we have a had all year, Greig City came out playing aggressive which set the tone for the game.
The girls did well through the game managing to put up scores, early on we struggled with rebounding the ball but as the game went on we found our feet and boxed out. The defence slowed us down but the girls did well to break the press and score, yet again Greig City weren’t going away.
They changed up defences which kept us on our toes but good scoring inside from Eleanor kept us ticking over and shots from outside from Georiga Elliot King and Jess Davies kept us ahead.
In the end it was a good defence that prevented Grieg City to score to secure our place in the English School Finals.”
