Leicester Riders guard Tyler Bernardini will return to the Riders line up next season following signing a new two-year deal with the club.
The first signing of the summer for the Leicester Riders sees high-powered Italian-American shooting guard Tyler Bernardini returning to the club for the next two seasons.
Bernardini averaged 13.7 points, 5 rebounds, 3 assists and 1.5 steals per game during his first two years in the BBL with the Riders on route to helping the club claim it’s first ever BBL Trophy title this season and it’s second BBL Championship title in the past four years.
Bernardini joined the Riders in the 2014-15 campaign on the court as well as enrolling in a masters degree at Loughborough University’s School of Business and Economics, a course which he is due to complete this summer ahead of the next BBL season.
The third year professional, graduating from the University of Pennsylvania, was named off the bench in the BBL Team of the Year as well as taking home Riders Fans MVP honours in the club’s end of year awards this season, something the Leicester Riders organisation are excited about seeing return to the court next year.
“It is great to sign Tyler [Bernardini] for the next two seasons,” commented Riders Managing Director Russell Levenston. “He has produced on the court over the last two seasons and played a key role in the success this year, helping the 2015-16 team in the history books by claiming the League and Trophy titles.
“Tyler settled into the Leicestershire community immediately, studying at Loughborough where he will graduate this summer and quickly became a fan favourite at Riders games. Riders fans voted Tyler their MVP this season, testament to his skill level and character. We are excited to see him continue to interact with our fans and partners as closely as he has in the past two seasons, and continue to play as he does on the court.”
Bernardini is the first player to ink a new deal with the Riders as the off-season signing period begins to heat up.
