Ahead of a busy weekend for the Riders which sees them take on the Cheshire Phoenix in the BBL Cup and then travel to London on Sunday to play in the BBL All-Stars Event at the Copper Box we’re focusing on 3 things to look out for in this Weekends action. CLICK HERE for tickets for Friday’s game.
Zoran finding his feet
New signing Zoran Talley made his Riders debut on Friday against the Newcastle Eagles despite arriving less than 48 hours before the game. With a full week of practice under his belt Talley is definitely one to watch this weekend as his ability to slash to the basket combined with his length make his an exciting player to watch on both ends of the floor.
Riders look to avenge last years loss in the BBL All-Stars Final
After falling to the Surrey Scorchers in last seasons BBL All-Star’s Final at the Copper Box the Leicester Riders will be looking to go one better this year and bring the trophy back to the Morningside Arena for the first time. With the alternative rules of a 12 minute games, a 5 point line and Golden Buzzer Power play the fast paced nature of the All-Stars event should suit Coach Paternostro’s versatile Riders roster. The Riders will face Cheshire in the opening game of the All-Stars in a repeat of the BBL Cup fixture on Friday night.
Cheshire will prove to be another stern test
Despite falling to the Riders 63-75 when the 2 teams matched up against each other in late September the Nix made a good account of themselves and it took a 18-30 third quarter in favour of the Riders to blow the game open. Cheshire also matched up well with Newcastle last weekend falling 92-100 although they led by 1 at half time. The Nix boast enough offensive fire power to cause any team in the league a problem on their day so it will take another strong display from the Riders to get the job done on Friday night.
