Leicester Riders opened the BBL season with a bang on the road in Sheffield, taking victory over the DBL Sheffield Sharks with a 31 point margin, 54-85.
After an even opening period, the Riders pulled away with a stunning 30-3 spell to take full control en route to victory.
Eric Robertson top scored with 15 points as one of five scorers in double digits for the visitors as they produced another impressive defensive display.
The first points of the new season had gone to Sheffield’s Tony Wroblicky before Taylor King quickly responded with a three, but there would be nothing to separate the two teams at the end of the first.
Leicester edged away in the second and their defence limited their opponents to just second points while a 10-0 close – including five points from Drew Sullivan – opened up a 13-point advantage at half-time.
The defending league champions then scored 20 unanswered points in the third to lead by as many as 30 points and there was no let up in the final quarter with Riders continuing to push the gap as all 11 players got onto the scoresheet in the win.
Riders return to action Sunday afternoon as they play their first home game against Worcester Wolves.
