Leicester Riders Women’s team completed a great opening weekend with a win against Brixton Topcats.
Riders opened the game on a 6-0 run and managed to close the first period with 12-7 lead but Topcats responded in the next ten minutes to reduce Riders’ lead to only 2 points at the half time.
Kastine Evans knocked down a three at the beginning of the second half and returned the team back to life. Good team effort helped Riders to carry a 5-point lead into the fourth quarter and managed to increase it to 56-47 after great plays by Maaja Bratka and Georgia Jones.
Kastine Evans had a great debut and ended the game with 21 points and 8 rebounds, whilst Maaja Bratka added 10 points.
Coach Harber was pleased with the first victory of the season.
“I am very happy to get the first win for the WBBL season. It was good defensive performance. It was tough but we got the job done.”
Riders women are back in action on October 17th when they travel to play Leeds Beckett University.
