The Leicester Riders took on the Nottingham Wildcats in the WBBL as the Championship season is approaching its climax.
The home game against the second in the WBBL table started with great shot by Chantal Pressley but Georgia Jones quickly return the favour with a fantastic three-pointer.
Great defence by the guests in the first period made the scoring task very difficult for Riders. Until the halftime Riders were struggling in offence but great distance shooting by Georgia Jones and Kastine Evans helped the team to keep up with the Wildcats.
After the half time Riders faced difficulties in breaking Wildcats’ defence. Although Riders were trailing 51-35 after the third period, they fought hard in the fourth quarter. Riders’ pushed the guests in defence and forced them to turnover the ball several times. Unfortunately that was not enough for Riders to win and the guests from Nottingham grabbed the victory.
After the game coach Matthew Harber commented:
“The result is very disappointing for us because we’d made such good progress this month and it seems a little unjust that we have concluded the month with such a poor second half performance.
We came out flat in the third period and we couldn’t find a way to get going. I thought our offensive principles were actually better in the second half, but we didn’t complete plays.
We’ll need to get back on the practice floor this week and keep working to get better. We will be ready for play-offs – I know that for sure.”
Georgia Jones scored 11 points, whilst Maia Bratka and Natalie Chaloner added 7 points each.
Next Sunday Leicester Riders are travelling to London to play Barking Abbey.
