Leicester Riders began their pre-season schedule with a 104-41 victory against Division One opposition in the form of Loughborough Student Riders at Loughborough University last night.
It was a chance for the young guns to pit their wits against the professional side, both teams had begun their pre-season training earlier in the week.
It was also a first chance for Riders fans to watch the new recruits with Pierre Hampton, Eric Robertson, Andy Thomson, Brandon Clark and Donovon Jack all featuring. It was in fact the new boys who took the headlines with Robertson leading the way with 17 pts just ahead of Clark who finished with 15. Jack also impressed on the boards with 8 rebounds and 3 steals.
Riders led 28-6 at the end of the first quarter, Loughborough struggling to find the hoop early on. It was a much closer affair in the second quarter as both sides rotated, the students side edging the quarter 16-15 to put the score at 43-22 at halfway.
The strength of the new look Leicester Riders side was there for all to see as they continued to drive hard in transition and put up points inside and outside the paint. A strong third quarter settled the game with the Riders running out comfortable winners.
