Leicester Riders took the 91-69 win over the visiting Manchester Giants tonight in the BBL Championship.

Riders started well taking an early lead to put them up 12-9. However, the visitors responded with sharp shooting from Giant’s guard Reiss Haggith and defensive stops to end the quarter ahead 15-19.

The Riders stepped up in the second, with Tyler Bernardini having back to back and-one plays which kick started a run in favour of the home side. The Riders extended into a full court press which proved to hot to handle for the Giants. Leicester were able to create steals and convert on the fast break,  including a monstrous dunk from Trevor Gruis. Momentum remained with the Riders, resulting in a 46-31 lead going into half time.

Riders began the third where they left off. Point guard, Neil Watson caught fire from behind the arch stretching the lead to 16. Callum Jones and Jerelle Okoro fought back, both finishing tough plays to prevent the Riders from stretching the lead. Offence began to dry up for the visitors, and the Riders took advantage, playing efficient offence and stretching the lead to 65-45 at the end of the third.

The fourth quarter remained with the home side, maintaining their 20 point lead practically throughout the last 10 minutes. It was Raheem May-Thompson’s back to back threes which ultimately sealed it for the Riders. The home side put on a strong performance, proving too strong for the depleted Giants squad and taking the 91-69 victory.
