The Leicester Riders continued BBL Championship action today against the Leeds Force at Loughborough University.
Leeds Force came into the game riding a high from their first ever BBL win on Friday against Surrey United. The confidence showed in the new team as Leeds took an early lead over the Riders with some hot shooting. The Riders, a week out of competition, regrouped and weathered the Leeds Force run to remain close throughout the first half.
The Riders came out of the half time break with a renewed defensive focus and began to wear down the visiting Leeds Force, going into the Fourth quarter with a narrow two point lead having trails for most of the first half. A further defensive effort, led by point guard Conner Washington who took multiple charges in the game creating havoc for the Leeds guards. Big plays down the stretch from Riders’ Bernardini, Washington and Watson as well as a dominate fourth quarter from big man Rashad Hassan helped lift the home side to victory.
Head Coach Rob Paternostro was pleased to pick up the victory and praised Leeds play in the game.
“It’s was a tough game today, I think it shows how tough the league is going to be this season and that you really can’t take anyone for granted. Leeds did a really good job, playing really hard today but in the second half we were able to turn up the defence and come out with the W.”
Riders travel to Glasgow next weekend to take on the Rocks before facing them again at home on November 23rd in the BBL Cup.
