The Leicester Riders opened the season with a 104-82 win at Loughborough University over the Manchester Giants.
Manchester opened the game with some hot shooting from Watts and Gill to create 4-10 deficit after the first five minute. Italian-American guard Tyler Bernardini responded right away for the Riders, helped by a great spark off the bench from young guard Conner Washington, to put the Riders ahead by a single point at the end of the first quarter.
Neil Watson came alive in the third quarter, pouring in 16 points in the quarter to blast open a lead for the Riders from which they never looked back, progressing on to take a 24 point victory over the northern side.
Head Coach Rob Paternostro was pleased to pick up the win on opening night of a double header weekend.
“Good opening night victory for us. I have to give them credit, I thought they shot the ball well but I thought that as the game wore on we were able to get out in the open floor and make plays.”
Riders now travel to Cheshire to take on the Phoenix in as BBL Championship action continues before returning to Loughborough University on October 11th to face Surrey United in the opening round of the BBL Cup.
