Leicester Riders women’s team grabbed their first WBBL victory after playing Manchester Mystics away (12-23; 27–42; 49–54; 64–75)
Leicester Riders started the game confidently with great energy in offence. The duo Georgia Jones and Alex Smith quickly gave Riders an eleven points lead scoring five times from the three-point line in the first quarter.
In the second period Riders kept the tempo high and pressured the ball constantly. The American student Alex Smith continued knocking down threes and finished with 17 points at the halftime, whilst Manchester-born Georgia Jones made 11.
Starting the second half with 42-27 lead Riders faced a lot of pressure from the hosts. Problems in Riders’ defence gave Manchester Mystics an opportunity to reduce the difference to only five points (44-49) in the third period.
However, in the last ten minutes Leicester Riders did not give up and pushed the hosts both in defence and offence to take their first WBBL victory this season.
Alex Smith led the scoring with 26 points and 9 rebounds, whilst Georgia Jones added 16 and Deanne Hayward made 11.
Leicester Riders are facing Brixton Topcats away in their next WBBL game on 15th November.
