Tonight match up saw the Leicester Riders take on the Loughborough Student Riders in their first preseason game of the season. The Riders secured the victory, comfortably beating the Students 97-55.

The Riders opened up the scoring with a string of fast break layups but the Students came out firing scoring four 3’s within the first 3 minutes leveling the score 12-12. Point guard, Neil Watson’s tough drive to the basket half way through the first, was rewarded with an and one, securing a lead of 20-14 for the Riders.

Riders remained strong on the defensive end, and along with Conner Washington’s sharp shooting from behind the arch, stretched the lead once more. The Riders remained in control for the rest of the first, with new recruit Billy Reader finishing a tough layup to end the quarter 31-14.

The second quarter was witness to Trayvon Wright’s impressive athletic ability converting a high flying ally oop, followed back a powerful finish on the end of the break.

Student Rider, Sam Broughton put the University side back on the scoreboard with a jumper, followed by Andre Arissol’s steal and layup to narrow the gap 39-18. The Riders were able to pull away again with Drew Sullivan going strong to the basket on back to back offences to put Riders up 49-22 going into half time.

The Student Riders came out of the break aggressively with Will Maynard converting a three, followed by a tough drive on consecutive plays. But Tyler Bernardini’s hot hand on the offensive end resulting in the Riders leading  76-39 going into the forth.

The Riders proved too strong as they continued to lead the way in the forth despite best efforts from the Student team, resulting in a 97-55 victory for the Riders.

Tyler Bernardini lead the scoring for the Riders with 21 points. For the Students, Will Maynard top scored with 14 points after an impressive performance on the offensive end.

The Riders will take on USA Select for their second preseason game next friday the 4th September at Loughborough University.
