Charnwood College got off to a winning start with an 84-50 win over local rivals Gateway College, in front of a packed home gym.
A balanced scoring attack from Charnwood saw 12 players get on the score sheet, with all 5 starters hitting double figures.
Charnwood College Head Coach Josh Merrington was pleased to pick up the win and move to 2-0
“I really liked how we shared the ball on offense today. It’s something I have really been preaching in practice and the guys did a great job of executing it today, and that’s reflected by the stats.”
Charnwood went on a 16-6 run to end the first quarter and take a 28-14 advantage after 10 minutes. A 26-19 2nd quarter gave Charnwood a 21 point leading heading into half time and they didn’t look back. Henri Langton led way for Charnwood with a 17 point, 11 rebound double-double.
He was well supported by Josh McSwiggan who also registered a double-double with 11 points and 10 boards. Tim Fava was also impressive bagging 12 points in a variety of ways. Johde Campbell led Gateway with 14 points.
Charnwood are back in action on the 8th of October when they travel to play Milton Keynes, meanwhile Gateway will be looking to pick up their first win of the season when they face County Upper at home on the same day.
