Riders Outdoor Basketball Fest

The Jelson Homes DMU Leicester Riders will be running an exciting Outdoor Basketball Fest consisting of six weeks of one hour FREE coaching sessions during the school holidays. Commenting on Monday 26th July, the fest will provide coaching for three different age groups: under 12, under 15 and 16+ and will take place at eight different locations across Leicestershire.

Each day of the week sees the club venture into a new area. Victoria Park, Moat Community Centre, Ryder Road Kirby Frith, Elston Field, Ayleston Recreation Ground, Home Farm Beaumont Leys, Armadale Drive Netherhall and Birstall Park will all be used by Riders coaches to deliver an intro into the fundamental skills of basketball, making great use of the outdoor facilities that are provided for young people in Leicestershire. The sessions are free of charge, and any child who attends at least 75% of the sessions will receive a free t-shirt and free entry to a 3 on 3 tournament, the culmination of the summer’s coaching, beginning in August 2010.

The club’s General Manager, Russell Levenston commented: ‘The summer months are an important time for us in terms of our community outreach work, and having provided coaching in over two hundred schools across the city and county, we are looking forward to continuing to develop our grass roots programme by providing top quality coaching to children in Leicestershire. This is a great opportunity to make use of the outdoor facilities available, and an ideal way for children to stay active in their school holidays. It provides great consistency within the community and is a great way to introduce people to basketball in a constructive yet fun and safe environment. It will also enhance skills such as team work, social skills with the added benefit of spotting exceptional talent. We have tried to make the coaching sessions as accessible as possible, with a wide variety of locations, and the initiative should be an enjoyable experience for all involved.’

The coaching sessions will run at a different location each week day, from 10am – 5pm with one hour being designated to each age group respectively.
